When I first started toying around with the idea of Borough, I thought I was building a real estate company. It was pretty cut and dry, I wanted to create mixed-income housing solutions in neighborhoods dominated by people of color. My main focus was mitigating the effects of gentrification. I wanted to figure out how to improve a neighborhood without displacing current residents.
Once I had a view of the big picture, I started researching what makes a neighborhood great. It was during this time that I realized affordable housing was only part of the solution. What about education, parks and access to public transportation or fresh food? In order for a neighborhood to thrive, there has to be healthy and inclusive businesses that contribute to the local economy. As the questions began to pile, I realized that the only way to really improve a neighborhood is to invest in the people who live there.
So welcome to our Borough. We are a company dedicated to making neighborhoods work by investing in people and businesses that impact the physical, mental and social well-being of the community they exist in.
Our goal is to create healthy, equitable communities.
