Local Conference, National Reach

When I first moved to New Orleans, I had a hard time finding a professional crowd that looked and felt like me. When I was approached to be apart of NOLAVATE Black, a platform that connects black tech professionals, I knew that we were on to something special.

The Challenge

Conceptualize and launch a community event for local people of color in New Orleans during Essence Festival.

A two-day tech conference featuring a VR lab, LinkedIn photobooth, co-working space and speakers from global companies like DXC Technology, Idea Village, Vimeo, GE and many more.

From 0 to Launch in Four Months

When I introduced the idea of hosting an event during Essence Festival, I imagined a small half-day event with a keynote speaker. However, when creative minds get together we always tend to push our limits. Over the course of two months, our small event evolved into a two-day tech conference with speakers flying in from all parts of the country.

As the Team Lead/Project Manager I wore many hats. I designed and developed the website, assisted with fundraising, speaker and community outreach, and developed the overall marketing strategy.

Making a Splash

Black Tech NOLA was attended by nearly 250 people over the course of two days. It is the largest annual black tech conference in New Orleans.
